About Me

I help people navigate burnout, relationship pressure, and feeling stuck, while offering specialized support for men who experience these challenges internally and often carry them quietly.  On the outside, things may look fine. Internally, many feel stressed, stuck, disconnected, or unsure of their direction.  Much of the work I do involves stress and relationship challenges that are connected to deeper patterns around self‑worth, often shaped by family expectations and internalized criticism.  I offer a space to slow things down, make sense of what’s happening, and work toward change in a way that feels practical and meaningful.

I’m Jonathan Fong, a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) based in Burnaby

offering online counselling for adults in BC.

My approach is collaborative, thoughtful, and grounded in real life. I draw from person‑centred therapy, CBT, and mindfulness‑based practices, but more importantly, I adapt to what actually fits you.

Our work often focuses on managing stress or emotional overwhelm, understanding relationship patterns, clarifying direction around work or life decisions, navigating expectations, and building greater self‑awareness and emotional regulation.

Many clients I work with are used to handling things on their own.  Therapy doesn’t have to mean digging endlessly into the past or “fixing” yourself—it can be a practical, reflective space to understand what’s not working and how you want to move forward.

In addition to private practice, I work as an elementary school counsellor, supporting children and families with emotional and behavioural challenges. This work has shaped how I understand stress, development, family dynamics, and the long‑term impact of early experiences—insights that often show up in my work with adults as well.

As someone who grew up Canadian‑born Chinese, I have lived experience navigating bicultural and family expectations, including the unspoken pressures around achievement, responsibility, and emotional expression. Many clients appreciate not having to explain these contexts from the ground up.

Finding the right counsellor is important. I offer a free 15‑minute consultation so you can ask questions and get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit.
